Facts and Information about the country of Belize

  • Location: Belize is located in Central America just south of Cancun, Mexico. 70 miles wide and 180 miles long, 8,867 Square miles. Roughly the size of Massachusetts or Belgium. 280,000 residents – the most sparsely populated country in Central America.

  • Main Activities: 2 nd largest barrier reef in the world, pristine jungle and extensive Maya Ruins. World-class fishing, diving, sailing, adventure and exploration.

  • Language: English is the official language & real estate transactions are conducted in the US $

  • Government: Most stable government and economy in Central America. Member of British Commonwealth. Two party democratic parliament.

  • Real Estate Ownership: fee simple clear and free title to all foreigners

  • Investing: No capital gains tax and a well established off-shore banking system similar to Cayman Islands and Switzerland

  • Time Zone: Same time zone as Denver (Mountain) or Houston (Central) depending on day light savings time. GMT – 6:00.

  • Travel: Direct flights from Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Newark, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans via Delta, American, Us Air, Continental and TACA (Central America). Soon direct from Europe and Canada.

  • Electric: Currency is 110 Volts with same electric plugs as in the USA.

  • Insurance: Full property insurance available and underwritten by Lords of London.

  • Medical facilities: Closest major hospital is in Dangriga (45 minutes by car or 15 minutes by airplane). New first rate medical clinic with Canadian ER doctors is planned for Placencia. Closest US hospital is in Miami: 1:45 minutes from Belize City.

  • Shopping: Can use US$ and credit cards everywhere. A gift shop will be located inside our Main Resort Building. Grocery shopping in Placencia. Higher-end shops such as wine shops, delicatessens, spas, beauty salons, etc are sprouting up along the peninsula.

  • Water: All tap water safe for drinking. Originates naturally in Maya Mountains of Belize.

  • Climate: Average temperature is 80 Fahrenheit, 26 Celsius

  • Getting there: Fly to Belize City then continue to Placencia via local airlines (25 minutes), highway (3 hours) or chartered Helicopter (20 minutes direct to Resort). The Villas at Cocoplum is 10 minutes by car from Placencia airport.

  • Excellent investment opportunity: International airport expansion will allow for direct flights from all over the world. Belize is “the next Costa Rica” (Conde Naste Traveler).
